Shooting incident in Calapan City - one Killed
Camp Efigenio C Navarro, Calapan City – On or before 9:15 o’clock in the morning of May 16, 2010, shooting incident transpired in front of United Evangelical Church UEC-UCCP, at Ramirez St., Brgy San Vicente Central, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro. According to PCSUPT PAUL PUEBLOS MASCARIÑAS, Regional Director, Police Regional Office MIMAROPA, the victim was identified as Mike Samson Cortez Rivera, 56 yrs old, married, NGO consultant, former Provincial Administrator (PA) under the administration of the late Governor Bartolome Marasigan and a resident of Brgy Guinobatan, Calapan City was shot by two (2) unidentified malefactors. Investigation conducted by Calapan City Police Station (CCPS) disclosed that the victim together with his family while on board a red Toyota Land Cruiser driven by Isaac Rivera (son), to attend the Holy mass at united Evangelica Church, when two (2) unidentified malefactors approached the victim and without any apparent reason shot the victim four (4) times, one (1) on the upper right shoulder and three (3) on the right temple, and the suspects fled toward Divine Word College of Calapan at M. Leuterio St., San Vicente Central, Calapan City. The victim was immediately brought to Holy Cross Hospital for medical treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.
The SOCO Team led by PSUPT JOSE POLANCO, SOCO Team Leader, Regional Crime Laboratory 4B immediately arrived at the crime scene and conducted the technical and scientific aspects of investigation. They recovered three (3) fired cartridges of caliber .45 and were subsequently brought to crime Laboratory Office 4B for necessary Ballistic examination.
The motive of the killing is still unknown; however, continuous follow-up is being conducted by the Calapan City Police Station.
